Two days of creativity at the Vert-Buisson school in Bruz

On June 24 and July 1st, the Vert-Buisson school hosted two days dedicated to art and creativity, orchestrated by muralist Allan Halley. The initiative was part of a call for cultural projects by the town of Bruz and the Confluences & Frontiers project initiated by INTER+VALUE. It gave two classes of pupils, one from a public school and the other from a state school, the opportunity to learn about mural painting, an unprecedented experience for these budding young artists.

The days were divided into several stages, with groups of 4 or 5 pupils taking turns to paint on one of the school's walls. The main aim of this activity was to familiarise the pupils with mural painting techniques while helping Allan Halley to find new sources of inspiration. Armed with brushes and paints specially designed for walls, the pupils had the opportunity to give free rein to their imagination by creating fruits and free drawings directly on the wall.

Allan Halley took the opportunity to demonstrate how to create volumes in paint. Using different fruits as models, he showed how to play with light and shadow to give a sense of depth and realism to the painted objects. The children learnt about visual art concepts such as the use of light and dark colours to create volume effects.

One of the educational aspects of this activity was to teach the children that their work could be ephemeral. Allan Halley explained that murals can often be covered up or disappear over time due to the weather. This lesson helped them to understand the transitory nature of urban art and to value the moment of creation.

The students were enthusiastic throughout the day. Each of them was able to express their creativity and contribute to a collective work, while spending a convivial and enriching moment with the artist and Louna Garand, his assistant.

The day was a great success, not only in terms of artistic learning but also in terms of personal development for the students. They discovered a new form of expression and experienced the satisfaction of seeing their work take shape on a wall, even if it is destined to evolve or disappear.
