Preparing for intercultural week

From March 2 to 12 2023, the INTER+VALUE team travelled to Vimioso (Northern Portugal) and Ribadavia (Galicia) to prepare for the intercultural week in October.

Firstly, the trip provided an opportunity to discover the rich local heritage (palombares d'Uva, Algoso castle, Miranda do Douro, Bragança, Douro valley, etc.) with a view to proposing visits to the region to our partners in the autumn.

We then left Portugal for Ribadavia in Galicia to meet Jotapé. This internationally renowned Chilean artist was offering to inaugurate one of his frescoes, paying tribute to the Irmas Touxas, three women known for having saved hundreds of Jews and Republicans during the Second World War. Our discovery of the city and its remarkable intangible heritage (Festa da Istoria, Feira do vino ribeiro and Mostra Internacional de Teatro) then convinced us to propose to the Ribadavia municipal team that they join the Confluences & Frontiers project, which turned out to be very successful.

Enriched by this new partnership, we then returned to Vimioso, accompanied by Jotapé. In turn, the Portuguese councillors were delighted to welcome the artist and provide him with walls to paint. Over the coming weeks, Jotapé will be creating a number of frescoes in Vimioso. As for us, we were able to talk to the municipal team and put together the programme for the intercultural week. On the programme from September 27 to October 4, 2023: local craft sales, cultural visits, film screenings, tourism and San Miguel celebrations...
