On Wednesday 24 April, the Maison Internationale de Rennes was the venue for a special event: the 40th anniversary of the MIR, celebrated through a European aperitif organised by INTER+VALUE. The event began with a presentation by the Jeunes Européens de Rennes (Young Europeans of Rennes) association, followed by an overview of the European institutions, giving participants a better understanding of current European issues.
The afternoon then took an entertaining turn with the screening of the first episode of season 1 of the Parliament series, followed by a screening of the film Démocratie (Democracy, 30min). These two screenings offered a stimulating reflection on European democratic mechanisms.
The highlight of the afternoon was the round table/debate on "Europe, democracy and bureaucracy" and "The European elections 2024". The speakers, including Jeanne-Françoise Hutin, Patrick Twidle, Manuel de Lima and the Jeunes Européens de Rennes (JER, Young Europeans of Rennes), shared their analyses and perspectives. In particular, Madame Hutin, an emblematic figure who has seen Europe being built, founder of the Maison de l'Europe de Rennes (House of Europe of Rennes) and godmother of the "Thirsting For Europe" project supported by INTER+VALUE, brought a committed vision.
The discussions on Europe and the forthcoming elections on 9 June were particularly rich and lively, arousing the interest of the participants present.
The event ended on a high note with a convivial aperitif hosted by the young Europeans. On the table were a variety of European dishes, from pretzels to Italian, German, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese and French specialities, symbolising the diversity and cultural richness of Europe.
