26/05/25 • LIBERTY AND DEMOCRATY IN EUROPE

5/5/2025

🎞 6 p.m. • PROJECTION of the documentary Des œillets pour la révolution (Carnations for the Revolution, 43 mins, Arte 2024) which recalls in images, with witnesses of the event and current reactions, the Carnation Revolution which, in April 1974, freed Portugal from dictatorship and paved the way for democracy, decolonisation and European integration.

🗣️ 6:45 p.m. • ROUND TABLE / EXCHANGE: in Portugal, as elsewhere in Europe – in Spain, France, etc. –, what was the experience of the event and what is the current state of democracy in the face of the new upsurge in rejection movements?

Witnesses to the event and specialists from countries that freed themselves from dictatorship in the last quarter of the 20th century (Greece, Portugal, Spain, Poland...) will debate with the audience.

🥂 7:30 p.m. • APÉRO-GRIGNOTAGE: between the debate and the concert, a few drinks and nibbles will be offered to participants, who will be able to continue the discussions in a convivial atmosphere.
